Artist Statement

The world of contemporary art, expressed through a variety of supports, is the main subject of Oscar Cueto's work. With detailed paintings and animations, picture by picture, he criticizes the cult of the contemporary art world and its personalities. His work- embued with a self-destructive humor - frequently shows a fascination for the strange act of artistic inspiration.

In his work, often the protagonist, the victim or victimizer is the artist himself, we can see to Cueto sprinkling his own blood on a wall in tribute to Jackson Pollock, or being beaten by her girlfriend with her handbag Takashi Murakami (by Louis Vuitton ) with the intent to inspire him. With black humor Cueto invites the viewer to participate in his own persecution in a miserable world, neat and "fashionable", where everyone wants to be the star, no matter the cost.
